Section 504 requires schools to give students with disabilities extra support to help them. The extra help is individualized to the student: extra time, a separate room to take exams in, just about anything that is required.

If you are only a high school freshman, you may qualify for special education. Don't fight it. It can be very, very helpful. The chances are excellent that once you leave high school, you will never see your high school friends again. So, do what is best for you -- because you have a very long life ahead of you. Your parents should ask the school, in writing, to test you for special education under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). That is the first step to getting the help you need.

It could mean that, instead of having to memorize a gazillion terms, you need to learn only the 5 you really need to know to write an essay. Wouldn't that be nice? If all your subjects were broken down to only what you really need to know, you would do a lot better, right?
