My favorite quote of all time is Desiderata.  I have referred to it all my life, particularly in times of trouble.  It starts:

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste

And remember what peace there may be in silence."

You can read the whole piece at this link.  I hope you like it.

I love this one:

Light can come in the darkest of times as long as some one rembers to turn on the lights.

"This above all else ; unto thine own self be true !

And it shall follow, as the night the day,

That thou canst not thence be false

 Unto any man ."

i.e. If you are honest and honourable with with yourself, you can't

be dis-honest nor dis-honourable to others.

I think it's from one of Shakespeare's plays (Hamlet?). My grandmother wrote it in my Autograph book when I was just a kid. At first I didn't really grasp what it meant. As I got older it made sense and I try to live that way.

Not always successfully, but I try !

A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.

Mark Twain.....A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.

Ralph Waldo Emerson.......Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish.

"We're not handed tomorrow, so I'll live for today." - 3 Doors Down

I understand that scissors can beat paper,

and I get how rock can beat scissors,

but there's no frickin way paper can beat rock.

Paper is supposed to magically "wrap around" rock, leaving it immobile?

Why the heck can't paper do this to scissors?

Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people?

Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly

suffocating students as they attempt to take notes in class?

I'll tell you why, because paper can't beat anybody.

A rock would tear that motha up in about 2 seconds.

When I play rock/paper/scissors, I always choose rock.

Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper

I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, "Oh crap, I'm sorry, I thought paper would protect you."

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walk.” – Thomas Jefferson

"Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives." -William Dement

The life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another, until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place my touch will be felt.
